I've also been inspired to venture into the garage and unearth my old bike. It was actually fairly tricky. I managed to locate the bike lock keys, but moving all the junk that was concealing it was heavy going. Also, it seems someone decided to store all the bike helmets upside down, so much spider-removal was required.
Considering I haven't ridden it in five years it wasn't bad. All I had to do was pump up the tyres and it was useable, although my body informs me that I should really adjust the seat, and ouch maybe get a new seat cushion... I'm planning to use it for my evening classes; the bus gets expensive when you're on the dole anyway, and I don't fancy the three mile walk now it's getting miserable. Just remember to take a plastic bag and fasten it over the bike seat if you don't have a covered cycle rack! There are too many times in the past when I've come out after a rainstorm and then had to cycle back on a soaking wet seat.
Yeah, so far I've avoided the rain, though I'm not looking forward to it when it inevitably happens. It was freezing this morning, which was hard work too - and it's only September! Joy! Time to go shopping and get some fancy cycling top I think.
Just by the by on bike locks, I was amazed that I could still remember the combination for my lock after about 6 years of not using it. Weird the things that stick in your mind... |
