Goodness me, Pete. A blog update!
I was expecting a long rant about Hallelujah... did you hear it's possible it could be numbers 1 and 2 in the Christmas chart, with the superior Jeffy B version currently going download-tastic?
As for Katie Price's book, I hope you told that childminder to sling her hook. (That rhymes.)

I always use song lyrics for my post titles. That line is from a song by Jewel. It's kinda like Occam's razor, in a way - the simplest explanation of events is true. I thought it fit well with the idea of trying to figure out what's true in a weird situation like the one I described.

Difficult to say on the melancholy front... I think maybe it was important to establish that it wasn't linked to a particular place, but is probably just my way of reacting to whatever bad things I see around me wherever I am, you know? Like, maybe I'll always be a bit vulnerable to feeling... unhappy about stuff.

I think that's what I meant with the "Know thyself" thing. It helps me to know that I, myself, am just slightly pre-disposed to feeling melancholy, and that's not really got that much to do with my circumstances or surroundings, but is just a part of me. That's not a great thing, but if I understand it a bit then maybe I can manage it, if you see what I mean.

Fascinating post mate. Especially as I don't know anything about that part of your life. Walking past your old home - that's always such a weird sensation. I'm glad you felt the whole experience was worthwhile, though - did it help with the melancholy?

This is a belated response to a good post- my fault, I'm up to my/ our eyes with panto.
But the reason it is good is tht it highlights the shallowness of today's "situation ethics"- which is always going to look for the "lesser" evil, because it seeks the "greater" good- without recognising that we ought, as Peter says, to be seeking a "no evil"- Kingdom- situation. It is all rather relativist, actually slightly despairing- not the Gospel hope, of comp[lete forgiveness, absolute holiness, a Holy and loving God who redeemsus totally.
I'd rather have that than a God who took me on "Just as I am" and didn't redeem me, or a Jesus who looked at the woman taken in adultery and said "Oh, well- whatever... at least you've now got someone in your life!" Let's take a stand for total redemption, total renewal, total forgiveness, total holiness.

Yeah, I'd go with that, and I admit that I did miss the respect issue in my hurried effort to blog something, anything, after so long a break.

There is a lack of respect, because as you say - you can't really respect someone just for taking their clothes off. I don't think that really works.

Interesting entry mate. The thought that immediately leaps to mind is that surely it's about respect? Respect for each other, and treating each other with love and compassion? You watch a tennis player and respect their abilities, whereas 99% of people who go to strip clubs are basically treating women as pieces of meat from which to get their kicks. Respect in this instance is a moot point - society doesn't really have any communal moral code, and so theoretically why wouldn't you respect someone for taking off their clothes? But I'd argue that stripping is about manipulating man's base, animalistic desires, in order to make cash. There is no love, there is no integrity, there is no pursuit of higher aims such as intellectual enhancement or, in the religious sense, holiness.
